Maryland Basketball, Raycom Style

From Gene Shue to Len Bias and Steve Francis, Maryland University basketball has a rich history. Many celebrated games were played outside Washington, D.C. in the campus’ Cole Field House. Lew Alcindor’s Power Memorial High School team had their 71-game winning streak stopped there in 1965 by DeMatha High. In 1966, Texas Western upset Kentucky in the NCAA championship at Cole, starting five Black players. And the 1970 NCAA Final Four (UCLA, Jacksonville, St. Bonaventure, New Mexico State) was played in College Park.
